Weight and Cosmetic Plastic Surgery
share
People often ask me about their weight and whether they should lose weight before undergoing cosmetic plastic surgery. Does it make a difference? I have a lot of conversations about it. Weight is a very important consideration and is one of the key points I address in every consultation. I believe that patients should achieve a stable, healthy, sustainable weight prior to surgery. This actual weight is not absolute and will vary between different people but should be stable, perhaps fluctuating within a few pounds, to yield the most predictable and long-lasting results. I should note, it is important that someone be at a healthy weight, supported by a nutritionally sound diet, as there are many risk factors related to performing surgery on overweight or obese patients. Also, problems can occur in someone who may be slim but malnourished.

What Makes A Great Patient
share
People have asked me "what makes a great patient". In my experience, I like to look at a doctor/patient relationship as a partnership. There are certain things that I, as the doctor, can do to make the outcome of a procedure as good as possible. But my patients also have a role in the partnership if we want to optimize success. Here are a few things I suggest patients consider and address before consulting with a cosmetic plastic surgeon.

CelluTite: a New Breakthrough in Cellulite Treatment
share
With the warmer weather upon us, people are starting to think about their beach bodies. Body contouring is always very popular leading up to summer as people are looking to improve their overall shape and remove their winter bulge. One area that is consistently a concern is cellulite. Women unfortunately are more prone to cellulite as it has to do with the fundamental architecture of the female fat tissues. Until recently there was very little we could do to help resolve cellulite. Creams, ointments, elixirs, and potions don't work for cellulite. And while there are certain non-surgical energy-based treatments available the results are typically modest and temporary. People could undergo multiple treatments, every 6-8 weeks, at several hundred dollars each yielding minimal benefit. At that rate the costs really start to add up.

Less Invasive Options for the Face and Neck
share
Over the past two years, I've had the pleasure of working with the BodyTite radio frequency system. Radio frequency energy is very safe, well understood and precise. It is more flexible than lasers or other light based technology, though it is still accessible and affordable. It has been a huge advancement in the field and can produce great results using a less invasive approach. The BodyTite system can be used on many areas of the body, but I'm going to focus this post on its use for face and neck treatments.

How Much Surgery is Too Much?
share
Every time I see another celebrity caught up in headlines about cosmetic surgery addiction, or being ridiculed for changing themselves into a caricature of their former self, I shudder at the thought of what this does to the credibility of my industry. Also, shows like Extreme Makeover haven't helped with the public's perception of what is realistic, and what is over the top. In this blog, I wanted to address the question of how much is too much when it comes to cosmetic surgery.

A lot of my patients are moms who are unhappy with the appearance of their tummy after having kids. Fortunately, there are a number of ways that we can fix these issues and get really great results.

Dealing with excess skin after weight loss
share
When somebody loses a lot of weight, it can be disappointing to realize that they have been left with a lot of loose and saggy skin that isn't going anywhere. Unfortunately, that skin was stretched out so far when the person put on the weight that it is past the point of naturally being able to shrink back. Fortunately, surgeons have ways to fix issues with loose skin after weight loss.

The subject of teens having cosmetic surgery is a controversial one, for sure. I don't think that there is a blanket response that can be given as to whether it should or should not be allowed, because there are a number of different factors that have to be considered.
